He was asking me about if I knew of any Super Sportsman rides. I told him I thought it would be pretty tough. He would like to bring let everyone out there know he's looking for a ride that night as he'll be there with his ARDC midget. This is a quote from 1 of our e-mails I am in my 3rd year of racing with ARDC Midgets and would like to try and find a team that would be intereted in having someone with wingless experience run there car for the 2 wingless races. I know Danny Miller has a second car that is really good and I believe John Steman does also. Not sure who else.....But hey if this kid is willing to come along and help out with setups. I don't want to jinx it but I might have a ride for this person! I will know friday or saturday at the latest! The only problem any "ringer" will have is that the first race is a points race, so heats will be lined up with normal handicapping! So any new driver will start heats last and no better than 12th in the feature! Your Signature ...

Your very much involve be-hide close doors when it comes to the Super Sportsman. And for you to go public about bringing in a RINGER is pretty crazy. What others might think about you doing this could get totally out of control. They shouldn't make a point race. If they want to have a point system for the 2 races thats fine. But to have this be a point race sucks. I don't think me helping another racer find a ride for this special night is such a big deal! I think a team could learn a bunch from letting this driver race a team car! Also like I said being a points race, this driver would have the odds stacked against him! I'm not really into the wingless show, but with the chance of this driver racing a super sportsman on this night, really has me looking forward to this show! Your Signature ...

As for making it a point race to make sure we have enough car's. WOW that's a statement. I just don't think it's fair that the track we support would do such thing. It's not right at all. You would have enough car's if it wasn't cause people would do it and those teams that won't do it would put someone else in the car to try to make a few bucks. I've also tried to get Smokey Snellbaker, JR fry, and even Rocky Magaro, but I'm not paying the bills so it is up to the car owner when it comes time to pick a driver! Grif, after last years race several drivers made it clear they would never do the wingless race again, however it was the biggest hit of the year for management! The Grove is a business trying to make money so that is why 2 wingless shows were scheduled for this year! Both shows were originally set to be points races, however after recieving may calls complaining about that, management met the teams half way and made 1 a points race and 1 a non points race! Then Blazers Body Shop came on board and put up bonus money for the 2 shows and that will go to the top 10 points earning drivers for both races combined! As a fan would you not want to see what Steve Buckwalter could do coming from the back in a wingless lead sled for the first time ever! Your Signature ...

He played no favorites, and gave me many to choose from-some old, some new. Thoughout the conversations, he wanted me to make the choice, not him. That's about as fair as you can get. Tough not to play favorites in that situation.

Race tracks are businesses. The Grove has survived for decades running one night a week. Their Saturday show probably is no where near as profitable as their Friday show. If front offices hear enough complaints.....and it becomes a hassle...you're done. Like it or not, the cars that bring the fans willing to pay $12-$20in 2009 to see a show out your way are 410s and the ones that bring the fans here are big block mods. Everyone else is a side dish. Not putting anyone down for their financial status, but like I started with...racetracks are businesses not welfare agencies. Apparently, the wingless show was profitable for them last year which is why they want what they want. I understand your frustrations and hear where you are coming from. I understand the safety issues that you are concerned about. Just be careful in your rants because before you know it...you may be cancelled. Trust me...it happened to me, it happened last year at Wall Stadium-an asphalt track in NJ, it is happening to many tracks and racers around the country, and it can happen to the super sportsman at Williams Grove. Then where will you go? Its not like you have a car that is easily sold for what it is worth or you can run at another track every week. It is the track's sandbox and sometimes you have to do things you don't want to do in order for it to work. Just like being married. TP

If the class has other tracks that want them enough to fill the schedule......given all the complaints I read about on here between track conditions and this wingless deal........why hasn't that happened yet? I don't think it would be as easy as you think. But..neither you or I own tracks, so unless we hear it directly from their mouths, no one knows that answer for sure. How's that old saying go..one in hand is better than two in the bush?

They know if they don't make it a points race no one will show up. This should not be a points race. Next they will tell them next yr. they are going to make all the sportsman drivers get a late motel because it is going to be a points race for the sportsman running a late motel. How can you change a car so much and make it fair to call it a points race???????? If this is to be so big, why don't they have a wingless show for points for the sprints. Boy that would pack the place. With people no cars though.

I dont understand why a lot of people here think that once the wings off the drivers and crews have no control over the cars. And everyones acting like the teams dont have a choice. The teams have several choices. a) Dont go if you feel that uncomfortable with this deal. Essentially there are 4 cars in the pts championship hunt so they should be the only ones locked in on it being a pts race. b) For those that dont wanna hurt there pts avg. Show up and take the green and pull in (which if anyone does this there gay), or just sand bag and run around the back like some teams do anyway. c.) show up and race. d) Do it the right way get a nice setup whether it be from someone who runs wingless normally or do it yourself and take advantage of practice Saturday and also Susky has a test and tune every Wednesday. This will get the driver comfortable driving the car which is the key to not crashing. ** On a sidenote even without the wings the drivers are still driving the cars. As long as drivers use there heads everything should be fine. The only flips last year were the 88 who has no problem crashing with the wing on and the 5's got together which was a racing deal very little to do with not having the wings on. Like I said drivers use your heads, if you feel out of control slow down its as simple as that.

Williams Grove could never go to Saturday Nights 358. They only get 30-35 cars as it is now on friday nights. Saturday Night some teams travel to Selinsgrove. So if they did they that would loose the Selinsgrove car's and Nevermind the fact Lincoln runs them Saturday Nights also. As I just told Greg today. I wouldn't be so hard on the wingless deal if they gave us more track time other then here you go boyz leave the wings at home. What I really don't like about it is the safety factor. Once you flip there is no wing to slow the crash down. If the speedway went about this another way. My opinion wouldn't be as strong as it is. I totally understand where people who like this say "IT PUTS EVERYTHING BACK IN THE DRIVERS HANDS" I understand that totally. I just think the track gives us enough time to figure out what the car needs. I watched Doug Esh air mail his ride a few weeks ago after the races. Why? Cause he didn't know any better and drove over his head and he even admitted that cause of not knowing how hard he could run the thing. And Esh is a terrible example, that knucklehead slammed it in wideopen on lap 1. Again if the drivers use there head everything will be fine for this 1 week thing!
