One of the three can be
confirmed......
...But from what I heard, the owner of the 30R quit because of health reasons. Roscoe, I think you and Flash better check your facts......

sportsman. The cars weigh 1900 pounds, or there abouts. They got small wings, manual steering and its the best show." |

ALTHOUGH THEY ARE JUST RUMORS AT THIS POINT, I HAVE HEARD THE SAME THING.

...............and so.....the rumor mill starts.............
But.....hey, we need something to talk about. Now my take on the 4 aforementioned 'rumors'. Mitten car bought........This could be true and I have no reason to doubt it, but I can't figure out why they would buy two new engines, unless Russ didn't include any in the deal. 30R and Duane Smith.......I could see him leaving MCR for another ride, but the 30C just doesn't make any sense. The Owner was getting out for heath reasons and didn't even finish the season. If he were to change his mind, I would think he would re-hire Derek.....unless there are reasons we don't know about, or Derek has turned him down to run his 358.....this is the rumor that makes the least sense to me. Perigo in the 93.....well, that one is a fact. Just think...the 93 started out blue in '08, and then went to white....now it will be Yellow! Shuttlesworth back and building his own car.......hey, I'd believe almost anything about Jim....he can build 'em and drive 'em, and I'm sure is itching to get in the seat. Don't know about getting that right front higher......it was on the verge of a wheelie as it was.... ![]() ![]()

I ACTUALLY DIDN'T HEAR THE MITTEN DEAL. BUT I KNOW THATS WHAT RUSS WAS LOOKING FOR.
HE TOLD ME HE WANTED SOMEONE TO FOOT THE BILLS WHILE HE DID THE WORK. I TALKED TO DEREK LOCKE SEVERAL TIMES LAST YEAR. I DIDN'T GET THE IMPRESSION HE REALLY LIKED THE SPORTSMAN. I KNOW HE WAS WANTING TO GET BACK IN A SPRINT CAR. SO IF THE 30R IS BACK,I AM SURE THAT'S THE REASON FOR THE NEW DRIVER. SOMEONE TOLD ME A FEW WEEKS AGO THAT SMOKEY AND LOYD WHERE GOING TO TEAM UP AGAIN IN 09 WITH A SPORTSMAN. I GUESS IT WAS IN THE PAPER, BUT I NEVER SAW IT. DID ANYONE ELSE HEAR THIS??? OW, WE ALL KNOW IF ANYBODY CAN BUILD A CAR TO DO THE UNTHINKABLE IT WOULD BE JIM. HIS STUFF IS SO "OFF THE WALL". BUT HE MAKES IT WORK ......FOR HIM!!! |

I heard the Smokey/Lloyd deal, but think it was said to be a sprint car...

I can confirm the first three rumors...
Mitten car bought........This could be true and I have no reason to doubt it, but I can't figure out why they would buy two new engines, unless Russ didn't include any in the deal. True...The new car owner opted to make a change in their engine program. I am delighted they chose us. True...The owner's health has improved and Derek had already decided to return to 358 sprint competition. Originally, the 30R was for sale. However, in a difficult resale market the owner decided to return for 2009. I'm happy to report we will be providing power for both the 30R and Derek's 358 sprinter. Perigo in the 93.....well, that one is a fact. Just think...the 93 started out blue in '08, and then went to white....now it will be Yellow! True...This one has already been confirmed, but I can't resist the opportunity for another shameless plug.;) Seriously, I would like to thank all my customers for their continued support. Regards...Scott Baylor

Hey Scott........
Can I jump on the Scott Baylor STP Performance ban wagon also.............lol Opps sorry I'm already on it. I was one of the first members........hehe Congrads on all your success. I look for Russ Mitten to be very tough in 2009. Now that he has a engine program under him. With out a doult I look for him to get the 99 and 8 car some fits. Smith parting ways with Mike Callahan Racing personaly I knew it was a matter of time before it happen. Before I left the team ( Or as some of you would say fired for a job I didn't get paid for) I wasn't happy and thought about leaving before everything got ugly there. Mike has a great heart and is truely like a brother to me still. But sometimes you can only go so far with what you got. And it wasn't worth wrecking a friendship over. So after the split I found myself to be alot more happier. Duiane and I also still talk. We worked well together and I'm pretty sure with the 30R he will be what WE should of been at MCR together. |

Thanks for the updates everyone! I am ready for the racing season already! I was told last winter that Jim was building his own super sportsman, but since he
didn't make it out in 2008 I kinda figured that just to be rumor! I know several of the Jersey boys plan to be regulars and/or semi regulars with us next
year!

So what actually happened in Jersey? Did they just axe them with no notice?

Without reopening all the old wounds, in short...yes. They've decided to not only cut the SS Sprints, but they cut the sportsman class here...which is what
you might know as small block modifieds...with 2bbls on gas. They had 35-40 of them showing up every week for $750 to win/$50 green money and they claim they
could not pay the purse. They also claimed that with 17 SS Sprints they could not pay $400 to win.
If you really want to read the whole thread....go to SJDR.com and look back in the archives around October or so. No warning at all. The bomb was dropped just a few days after the final race. Funny thing is about the whole deal...Frankie Herr won the first and the last SS sprint race at New Egypt...and they were years apart. Either way, we're all looking forward to heading out to PA. Going to be a learning curve, but it will be really nice to be with a different group of people who appreciate open wheel racing. TP |

I don't know how you guys want to work the rookie thing, but I doubt any of the NJ guys would want to take that award away from a true
"rookie" whose first full size car is a super sportsman. There are many wins in many different classes of circle track cars for most of the drivers.
In addition, some of them have been racing for over 15 years.

Cant wait for the 09 season to kick off with a double dip weekend, which makes it all the more exciting. I can say for a fact that Jim is calling around...He
called us for our deal only wanting parts to build his own car as im sure most of u know or expected....dont think Smith will be a good driver for the
30R..going from a young kid to a hot head...dunno if thats a good move...

Tony:
I am not going to treat you guys as rookies ( we normally make all rookies start in the rear untill we feel they are ready to start by average)! Yes you guys are new to most of us, but they names you have mentioned have all raced the ss sprints for at least 1 season, so you will not be put to the rear (unless you choose to at first). |
