Your a week late. That was last monday. Was I the fall guy for the 13 or so races we had this year? Yes I was! I'm not happy about it,But as it was put to
me it was a finance decision because of a person that didn't have all the facts of what was going on. After a hour long phone call Thursday that person had
all the facts. Our steering box was rebuilt over the winter by someone close to the shop. They didn't put the box back together correctly. It was missing a
spacer to keep the worm gear interlocked. That's why Phil would go into the corner and loose the car as the steering became loaded. I never knew about a
steering issue until the last Grove race when Phil said about the tape mark doesn't come back in at the same spot as be puts the wheel on. As I checked the
steering out sure enough the box skipped in the pits we didn't run the rest of the night that night.
We go to Port Royal didn't have a good night lose two front ends. 1 was driver error the second..... Wrong place wrong time! But hey it's ok I have big shoulders, And I'll be the fall guy. I didn't do nothing wrong but I'm the only one paying the price for it. Which is fine with me. I even wanted to steering box looked at after our first race at Lincoln when we got crashed on the first lap and bent the tubes up. But I was told "NO it was just rebuilt over the winter" So you can have all the fun you want with this.......I really don't give a $hit. Every person that I have spoken to about this in detail knows and feels the same way. I got screwed over. One thing I learned racing with Mike Callahan. He would always pound in my head how he alway pays for other peoples mistakes. It doesn't matter if it's the driver or a crew memeber he always for the mistake. And I took that to heart cause I know how tight money can be. So I pride myself on making sure everything is right. Well in this cause becase of someone mistake. We all looked bad.....The driver,Motor man,Owner and myself as crew cheif. But I'm the only one paying the price. I didn't get a fair shake. But it's ok I got big shoulders and can handle it. Pressure is on now.......You people want to say I'm the hold back of the 6 car.......Well then he better win this weekend then huh? It all should be good the great crew chief is gone. Well for you most know people that stand around the water cooler. I got that phone call last Monday morning about 10:00 am By 3:30 PM I was already in contact with a new team and driver. We have came to terms. Had we raced Saturday night I would of helped them. I plain to be at the shop this Wednesday Night to just go over some things with the team. The driver of the car has won before and has enough laps in the car. This isn't what I wanted to have happen between Kerry,Phil and myself. However it is what it is. I'm a loyal person and I was committed to them. I was sticking to by my word. Yes I had other chances to do other thing's. But that's not me, When I tell someone I have a goal and that I'm here to see everything threw I mean that. Phil and I are still friends and we still talk. So now you have the rough facts of what happen. I hope this makes your day so much better as you skip into work as if you just found out something that will make a different in someone's day. Cause really I don't think anyone in their right mind give's a $hit. But for some reason my fan's, People like you do! I'm so glad your that worried about me. Don't forget to send me a Christmas card this year So crack a bottle, let your body waddle

Did we really need to have the whole hour spent reading about it? Maybe just keeping quiet about it and letting it ride would have been better then trying to
GLOAT over something that was not your fault! Just say that it was a mutual decision and leave it at that!

Oh my god....... I feel like Red Fox on Samford and Son " OH LORD ... HERE I COME.... I'M HAVING THE BIG ONE" (As he walks around holding his
chest) I can't beleive nomore is backing me up on this one. This ain't about taking sides or pointing the finger at anyone. Maybe your not such a bad
person after all. And I'm right there with you. I'm not taking a shot at them either. I just don't agree with the final with the out come. Maybe
some of it had to do with the last few weeks I didn't go down to the shop. I just couldn't get down there as much $20.00 round trip with turn pike
tolls and gas alone. I don't know maybe after the we lost the second front end, They was upset cause I went up to watch Jason Fry win the feature. I pay my
own way and I've yet to really see any racing that night. And I felt I had to right to go watch the last few laps of the feature. I don't know but I
guess at this time it doesn't matter.
They didn't know anything about the other team. After the talk I had with the 1 person Thursday that pretty much called for my pink slip. It was a waiting game. The person admint to me they didn't have all the facts and also said if that's the case that I was right it wasn't fair to me and he'll be the first to currect himself. So I figure by race time Saturday I'd hear something from the team. And I didn't hear anything. Once I got the phone call I called Scott Baylor and said "Hey Bud your off the hook the message board gods will be on me now" And he just told me hang in there and if I needed anything to let know him. Scott has always been there to help me out with whatever Engine stuff and parts that he carries. I also spoke with Denis from Hanks. Same thing.....She is supporting me whatever I do. Like I said. I'm not here to take shots at the team in any way shape or form. I hope the time I spent there they use a few things that I showed them. Cause that was said to me during the phone call Monday morning is that they did learn alot from me and is greatful for that. I really do hope and wish them well. And if they park in victory lane some night, I will be the first one there to shake everyone hand. So crack a bottle, let your body waddle

To anyone who has ever wrenched on a racecar knows (crew chief or not), the hardest thing to do is to stick by a newer driver with all of the learning curves
that go with it. The crew will always end up looking bad and the driver will always blame it on the car. That is just the way it is. Car owners will always
blame the crew chief and that's how it goes. This is all done out of frustration.
No car is any better than the driver-period. A good driver however, can make a bad car look good. This is a fact that we have all come to know and hate. What happened to KG is part of racing and sometimes a change like this is good for everyone. He will get a fresh look at a new team looking for help and maybe the 6 car will get the same thing from someone else. KG/6 team-good luck with your new adventures! I've been there, done that, and will probably do it again sometime! |
